•••••Keeping grass and weeds cut down can seem like a daunting task, but it has WONDERFUL rewards. The obvious risk is fire danger. Tall grass and weeds allow fire to spread incredibly violently and can promote tree canopy fires, creating a true forest fire. Fires will burn at least twice as high as the grass height. Less obvious risks are pests. Snakes, rodents, spiders, and ground wasps thrive in dense vegetation areas.
Keeping grass height down removes the environment these unwanted creatures desire. Additionally, by keeping fields mown, weeds do not have an opportunity to grow tall enough or mature to produce seeds. Continual maintenance can take a weed choked field full of star-thistle, thorns, and pests, and turn it into a beautiful park like setting. Grass which can grow and survive at a few inches tall is the only thing that has an opportunity to seed. Weeds soon disappear and a well manicured park replaces your yard and fields. Being able to walk through your yard and not end up with thorns coating your clothing, or your pets fur coat, is almost as priceless as the peaceful sleep knowing your risk to fire is minimized substantially.
